  High precision sanitary flow transmitter

          . catalogue

The PD 340 Flow Transmitter from PROCES-DATA is an electromagnetic precision
meter for the volumetric measurement of liquids that are electrically conductive.
The transmitter can be used in applications where a hygienic design is required.
The PD 340 is the transducer of choice in industries where the highest standards in
sanitation, hygiene, accuracy and reliability are of paramount importance.
Industrial sectors ranging across the Dairy industry, Brewing Industry, Soft Drinks
and Food, Animal Feeding, Potable Water, through to non-hygienic industries,
where accurate measurement of a wide variety of conductive liquid chemicals is required.
The rugged construction of the transmitter also makes it suitable for installations
where solid particles are present in the liquid.

  Profibus Flow transmitter

The PD 340 flow transmitter with Profibus DP fieldbus interface makes measuring flow
and volume as simple as measuring a temperature. All data from the device  transferred
to the PLC via Profibus DP. No analogue inputs or high speed counters  are needed.
The PD 385 Profibus interface module is universal for all PD 340 meter sizes, ranging
from C 25 to C 102 (1¡± to 4¡±). The PD 385 can be used with any extended version PD 340,
whether it is new or old.
   Easy to install
The PD 340 Profibus Flow Transmitter is extremely simple to install:
¡ÜInstall the flow transmitter in the pipework.
      ¡ÜConnect power and Profibus cables.
¡ÜSet the Profibus node address before mounting the terminal box.
   Automatic configuration
In the Profibus master (PLC), the control system engineer defines the meter size,
the measuring unit, and which process values to transfer. This procedure is similar
to defining other Profibus devices, such as a temperature transmitter, and is done
only once during initial project engineering. Every time the flow transmitter is powered up,
the Profibus master will send the setup data to the device, securing that it is configured
   correctly.
   Maintenance made simple and secure
Disconnecting the Profibus interface module from the flow transmitter does not disturb the
Profibus communication on the bus. In the event of a flow transmitter replacement, the
interface module can therefore simply be disconnected from the old transmitter and
connected to the new one. The automatic configuration feature described above ensures
that the new flow transmitter will automatically be configured correctly when connected.
Furthermore, no assistance from a control system engineer is required.

  Display Unit

Whether standalone or part of a more complex process automation system, the flow
transmitter offers the ability to locally indicate (within 100 metres) any of its measurement
results on a small waterproof, panel mountable display and keyboard.
The keys mainly act as measurement selectors (flowrate, volumes, temperature, etc.), but
can also be used as a means to input setpoints for batch or flowrate control and to reset
volumes etc. However, its versatility also extends to being able to fully configure the flowmeter
for one of its manyu configurable tasks.

  Meter selection guidelines

When selecting the meter size please observe the following guidelines:

¡Ü As a main rule, a Flow Transmitter with a pipe dimension equal to the rest of the piping
      system should be selected.
¡Ü Never exceed the maximum flow rate of the transmitter (see below).
¡Ü If optimum measurement accuracy is primary concern, the smallest possible transmitter
should be chosen, still observing that the maximum flow rate must under no circumstances
      be exceeded.
¡Ü To further improve accuracy, especially on very low flow rates the Linearizing function
    should be enabled.
¡Ü If the chosen metering section is smaller than the pipework in the installation,
the connecting pieces should be tapered.

   Meter sizes

The PD 340 Flow Transmitters are available in the following 6 sizes:
